Hendy Group invests in latest heating technology to reduce Co2 emissions
And the group is certainly doing its bit for the environment, after dramatically reducing its carbon emissions over the last 10 months with the introduction of an innovative new heating control system to a number of its sites.
Initially testing the system in sites across Hampshire, the south coast car giant reduced its carbon footprint by 46 per cent between December 2006 and March 2007. Following these excellent results the same system has been installed at the rest of Hendy’s sites and the overall energy saving for the Group is predicted to be significant.
The heating control system, which is supplied by Clarke Controls, uses sensors on the workshop doors to shut down the heating system if the doors are left open. It also monitors the temperature to calculate when the heating needs to be turned on in order to reach an acceptable working temperature.
Hendy Group director, John Hendy, said: “We always look to save energy where we can and this new heating system has proved to be very effective, cutting out avoidable wastage. It is installed at all of our sites, including the new Leigh Road site, which also benefits from an underground tank that harvests rainwater to be used for washing the cars and energy saving lighting controls.
The automatic lighting at Leigh Road saves electricity by turning the lights on when you walk into a room and turning them off when you leave. We will be looking to have this installed in the rest of our sites in the future.”
