Mobile phones are a necessity for everyone nowadays. Most of us would not be able to function without them! Maybe a slight over-exaggeration, but do we really realise the hazard that mobile phones can cause whilst driving?
Yes, we are all well aware of the law changing for mobile phones in recent years. Despite this, you would be surprised to find out how many people still go against this and ‘break the law.’
A recent study showed that a record 200,000 people were fined for using their mobile phones in the past year. This makes using your phone illegally whilst driving the fifth most common driving offence. Almost half of the people questioned in this study even admitted to using their phone illegally and one in four confessed to committing the crime once a month! This suggests that many people do not understand the seriousness of the new law!
How can I avoid this fine and improve my safety? Well, first things first, a mobile phone is not a toy and should be treated as a tool which is only used when necessary. Hands free kits are becoming standard in most vehicles now. This will allow us to still get the full use out of our phones, whilst keeping focus on our driving and getting to our destination safely. If you don’t have a hands free kit, there is only one thing you can do to make a call...PULL OVER!
But aren’t hands free kits expensive? When hands free kits don’t come as standard in a car, it would be between £150 and £250 for a Bluetooth and USB kit, depending on the model. They may seem a lot, but it is a small price to pay when your safety is at hand.
Currently, Ford Bluetooth hands free with voice control is standard on Mondeo, Galaxy, S-MAX and C-MAX models.
