Carbon Offsetting

The options to solve the ever growing issue with our individual carbon footprint is becoming more prominent in today’s society.

Specialist companies offer programs dedicated to creating a sustainable eco system by helping you offset your carbon emissions. These companies have become more high profile in the last year with the new attitudes towards our environment.

With carbon offsetting you donate or equal out in monetary terms the amount of CO₂ you send into the atmosphere by your carbon footprint (air travel, car travel, home use of energy). This money is then used to help organisations whose primary goal is to re-balance the world’s resources which have been or a being destroyed by our current way of living. One of the ways this is done is by re-plating trees and crops which will use the extra CO₂ being produced to grow and replenish with much needed and less harmful oxygen.

All of the company’s websites have a carbon calculator which you can work out exactly how much you “owe” the planet, and will offer the option to donate the cash equivalent to their preferred charitable organization.

Other ways which this can be done is to go through an eco friendly insurance company who will either give you benefits to having lower CO₂ or will automatically calculate your CO₂ emissions and build the offset into your plan. So without knowing it directly you can be helping to reduce your CO₂ impact on the environment.
