Available Now : LPG

Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is a natural hydrocarbon fuel made up of propane and butane. It has the special property of becoming liquid when under pressure, and reverting to gases at atmospheric pressure. This means it can be easily and conveniently stored as a liquid.

Today, it has had the strongest backing from the Government for it’s development and large cities like London have made it a priority to have fueling stations supply LPG, and to this day has the largest concentration of LPG available.

Many local Council’s are proposing to adopt a “cleaner city” protocol by making it mandatory for all light commercial vehicles which enter designated areas of the city/town run on Alternative fuel, in particular LPG. More information on London’s proposal can be found at Transport For London Website

You will not notice a change in how the vehicle runs when using LPG, but will benefit greatly from the low cost of fuel (almost half the price of petrol and diesel) as well as the longer distances it can run for before visiting a filling station.

It is generally accepted that LPG gives a 10-15% carbon dioxide reduction in comparison to petrol and is on a par with diesel. LPG also delivers 80% lower nitrous oxide emissions than diesel, along with zero particulate emissions. Significant additional reductions can be achieved if the LPG system is fully integrated at manufacture rather than through conversion.

To convert your vehicle costs from £1500 to £2700, but this can be quickly recouped from the savings you will get on running costs, and the only downside is that you may loose a bit of boot space, but in many circumstances the tank is shaped to fit perfectly in the spare wheel well of the car.

Vehicle Features

Key benefit features to LPG are:

  • There are over 1,200 LPG refuelling sites across the UK
  • smoother, quieter, cleaner running for your car
  • 30% extended engine life
  • cleaner air for all
  • half price fuel for you
  • lower service costs
  • extended cruising range. The ability to run on both petrol and gas.
  • safety - quality LPGA approved LP gas cars are recognised as being safer, offering better crash/fire tolerance.
  • safety - allowing you to drive a larger/luxury car with inherent added safety features and better crash protection qualities.
  • as a business user you will be able to recoup some of the conversion cost as a capital expense.
  • added reliability - the RAC and AA will confirm that most breakdowns are fuel related. On a rainy night having a second, fully independent tank of fuel might give some comfort.
  • possible reduced insurance premium
  • possibility of running one larger/luxury car for all journeys and selling second runabout.
  • resale value enhanced, especially on larger engined or luxury cars where running costs put a lot of customers off.
