South coast rally driver Steve Hendy is hoping for success on his local event on the weekend of 26th February as Rally Sunseeker heads into Bournemouth.
The Ferndown driver is best known for his expertise on asphalt after winning two national titles but switches to the gravel this weekend in the Hankook shod Ford Focus WRC.
With co-driver Aled Davies alongside, the pair will tackle a packed day of rally action which includes high speed stages in the grounds of Somerley House and Ringwood forests.
Seeded at number 15 for the event, Steve is hoping for success on his local rally and looking forward to being back in the forests.
“This is our first event of the year so really looking forward to blowing away the cobwebs and hopefully setting some good times,’’ said Steve.
“The Sunseeker is my local event so it’s always a good one to support,’’ said Steve whose highest finish to date on the event has been seventh overall.
“We are really hoping for a top five finish although I have not been in the forests for some time.’’
He said testing time has been tight before the rally which may make for some interesting lines on the high speed tests.
“We have used Hankook tyres extremely successfully on the asphalt rallies in Belgium and I know they are also great on gravel so we are confident that the car will be ready for the conditions.’’
The rally gets underway with a parade at Poole Quay on Friday evening before rally action on Saturday.
