Two days of high speed rally action are on the agenda for south coast rally driver Steve Hendy this weekend as the team heads to Belgium for the Omloop Van Vlaanderen Rally.
The event gets underway in the Belgian town of Roeselare on Friday evening with two tricky asphalt stages as darkness falls.
After an overnight halt the crews will tackle a further 12 stages on closed roads in the region in what is expected to be a long, tough day of rallying.
“It’s going to be a particularly testing event with some great rally stages but some difficult stages which will need 100 per cent concentration,’’ said Steve who will be co-driven in the Hendy Group Ford Focus WRC by Aled Davies.
“We have valuable experience of the car, the Hankook tyres and Belgian rally stages which should put us in a good position to be among the leaders but the line-up this year is extremely competitive with plenty of top drivers from throughout Europe taking part.’’
The crews will tackle 211 km of high speed stages which will provide the crews with a good mix of stage conditions. “Our last event was in blistering heat so we are hoping for cooler conditions this weekend,’’ said Steve.
The crew heads to Belgium to recce the stages and fine tune their route notes before action gets underway on Friday evening.
