Steve Hendy and co-driver Aled Davies produced a storming drive on the Isle of Man at the weekend finishing an impressive second in class and seventh overall.
The Hendy Motorsport team travelled to the Isle of Man last weekend and produced a storming drive, finishing an impressive 2nd in class and 7th overall.
Treacherous weather conditions and gearbox problems failed to dent the enthusiasm of Steve and co-driver Aled Davies in the Hankook-shod Ford Focus WRC as they contested the RBSA International Manx Rally.
The two-day event on the island saw crews faced with 15-high speed tests on the closed roads of the island, with Hendy on a mission to succeed in the Hendy Group Focus WRC.
Action got underway with night time stages on the island and mixture of torrential rain and fog as night fell … not the ideal time for the windscreen wipers to fail !! Steve said “we had to take things extremely steadily in the pouring ran and then when the fog came down, conditions were even trickier. We were just pleased to get back to the service area at the Grandstand for the overnight halt in one piece!”
Thankfully, Saturday was a different matter in terms of weather conditions, and the Hankook tyres helped Steve & Aled to climb from 21st overnight to finish a rousing 7th overall and 2nd in class.
The dry roads made a huge impact on the progress, although 6th gear was lost, slowing the car on some of the fastest sections.
However, a quick pace was maintained and the team are pleased to have finished 2nd in class.
Having put together a great package with Hankook tyres and following on from the team’s podium position success in Monteburg last week, Hendy Motorsport are now planning a programme of events in Europe for the rest of the season.
Back in action next, contesting a round of the West Euro Cup in the Netherlands July 2007
