Gripping drive from Hendy on Rallye Sunseeker
The forests on the Hampshire/Dorset border proved a successful testing ground for south coast rally driver Steve Hendy in the Hendy Group Focus WRC on the recent Rallye Sunseeker.Steve and co-driver Aled Davies finished an impressive fourth in class on the Poole-based event after a hectic day on the forest stages which also included high speed tests in the grounds of Somerley House.
The former asphalt rally champion is more at home on sealed surfaces and said a spin on the slippery gravel on the first high speed test of the day put the pair down the leaderboard but a clean run through the later stages of the event saw them climb into the top five for their class.
“It’s always great doing Rallye Sunseeker which is my local event and close to a number of our dealerships and operations so the support is tremendous,’’ said Steve.
“The car ran faultlessly, the Hankook tyres coped with the conditions and we were delighted to get back to the finish with a decent class result.’’
It was the first event of 2010 for Steve and Aled who are now looking overseas for their next outing – expected to be in Belgium at the end of April.
