Paul Philpott, President and Chief Executive of Kia Motors (UK) Limited has been acknowledged as one of Autocar's Outstanding UK Leaders at the magazine's annual award ceremony at Silverstone on Tuesday 23 May.
In just over 10 years he has led the company as it has trebled its sales performance in the UK and built its reputation amongst the 188-strong dealer network to where it regularly tops satisfaction surveys for its focus on profitable partnerships.
Presenting the award Autocar Editor Mark Tisshaw commented: Paul Philpott has taken a company once unnoticed and unloved and fired it into the mainstream of the UK automotive industry. Kia now consistently breaks sales records and steals market share from more established competitors with ever-improving cars best typified by its most popular model - the Kia Sportage."
Philpott said: "This is a tremendous honour and I share it with an excellent team of people at Kia and a dealer network who have committed to investment and excellent customer service and experience. I am particularly proud to have been recognised by Britain's oldest car magazine for the efforts of the last decade."
Last year Kia delivered almost 90,000 new vehicles - more than three times the number it delivered in 2007 with its Sportage, Picanto, cee'd Rio and Venga models comprising its top five best-sellers. The UK is Kia's biggest market in Europe and is currently the brand's fourth biggest global market after the domestic market, The USA and China.
