The 2016 Initial Quality Study (IQS) carried out by J.D. Power has revealed Kia as the highest scoring nameplate of all 33 automotive brands in the UK. This triumph means that Kia has made automotive history as the first non-premium brand to top the survey's results in 27 years.
Both the Soul and new Sportage were champions in their categories, plus the Rio, Forte and Sorento all pipped a podium place in their respective segments. South Korean Kia entered the survey's top 10 in 2013, climbing to second in the industry and top in all non-premium brands in IQS in 2015, so a 2016 win has built on that success.
Michael Sprague, Kia Motors America's Chief Operating Officer and EPV, commented on the win, saying: 'Ranking number one in the entire industry for initial quality is the result of Kia's decade-long focus on craftsmanship and continuous improvement, and reflects the voice of our customers, which is the ultimate affirmation. As the highest ranked brand in the industry, there is no doubt Kia is a world-class automaker.'
The annual J.D. Power IQS, now in its 30th year, measures new vehicle quality over the first 90 days of ownership, analysing 233 problems in eight categories to predict long-term reliability. The survey serves as the industry benchmark for this, encouraging competition and areas of improvement in vehicle quality.
