Hendy group adds to long-serving staff club | July 2018

Hendy Group has proven it's a great place to work after welcoming seven new members to its '25 Year Club'.

The club brings together loyal employees who have worked for the automotive group for 25 years or more, and the new additions bring its number of members to an impressive 105. To celebrate, Hendy took 25 Year Club members on a day trip to the Isle of Wight followed by a glittering awards evening and overnight stay at the five star Southampton Harbour Hotel. Chief executive Paul Hendy said: "It was a great opportunity to celebrate long service from our employees and this was our way of saying thank you for their hard work, dedication and loyalty to Hendy."

New members to the 25 Year Club include Peter Rumsey, who started as a sales executive with the group in Tunbridge Wells before quickly being promoted to a general sales manager.

Lee Marlow joined the group in Winchester and currently works at Eastleigh, while Julie Lewis joined as a part time telephonist and is now a vital member of the central Welcome Team.

Mike Adams started working as a valeter in Southampton and now works to support the sales manager in maintaining both Ford and Honda sites in the city.

Lucy Thorne joined as a new car administrator with spells in Chichester, and more recently Portsmouth, while Ben Butler joined as a YTS trainee working in administration before moving into new car sales where he has remained for the last 11 years.

The final newcomer is Steve Webb who started his Hendy career as a warranty clerk and now runs the service operation in Portsmouth.

Hendy Group has a high percentage of staff who have served with the company for a decade or more. It forecasts that 15 per cent of its staff will have accrued 25 years of service or more by 2022. Good training and benefits, staff development prospects and the fact it is family-run are some of the factors the business puts down to its high staff retention.

Paul Hendy added: "We believe our customers get the very best service from a happy and motivated team. That's exactly what we've created and we're delighted that the 25 Year Club is quickly becoming the least exclusive club!"
