Last weekend, the Hendy Motorsport rally team once again travelled across the English Channel to compete in the Rallye de Bethune for the 5th time.
With some original stages and a number of new tests, the Project Mu Focus WRC was immediately on the pace with the newer machinery that was competing amongst the 165 entries on the event. The weather was hot, as was the pace, and the local ace, French National Champion David Salonen, was edging out an impressive lead with the Hendy team lying 4th overall at the overnight halt.
Sunday's weather promised much the same and the nature of the fast stages favoured the new machinery, with the Subaru S12B of a fellow British crew gradually pulling back some time from 5th! Having overhauled other cars, both teams were left fighting for 3rd spot on the podium, entering the final 16km test only 0.5 seconds apart.
Both crews pushed hard, and the team of Steve Hendy and Aled Davies stopped the clocks 2-seconds after 100 miles of competition. With the other competitor having problems on the final stage, the Hendy Motorsport team were promoted one more place and finished the event in 2nd place!
