Nestled in the heart of the South Down National Park, Meon Springs is one of Hampshire's finest fly fisheries. And ever since 2003, it has hosted a Country Experience Show each Spring with one thing in mind - to give people the chance to have a go at country sports such as: fly fishing, clay shooting, air rifles and archery.
The event - which is sponsored this year by Hendy Group - is open to young and old alike. Even children as young as four can have a go at catching a trout to take home with them in our kids' pond.
The idea is to give people the chance to have a go at something new. And if they like it, we hope it will inspire them to take part in a whole new range of country pursuits.
For anglers, there are casting tutorials run by the Game Angling Instructors' Association (GAIA) to help them improve their skills. There are demonstrations by the Fish Wives, an all female group setup to encourage more women to take up fly fishing. And on Saturday 9 April 2016, angling giant Charles Jardine will be here giving his not-to-be-missed fly fishing masterclasses.
"If you're an angler or you're thinking of taking up fly fishing then this show is for you," said Jamie Butler who runs Meon Springs. "We've dozens of instructors on hand to introduce people to the sport and show them how to cast, retrieve and catch fish on the fly. And if you want to have a go at clay shooting or archery then come along - it's all about having a go at country pursuits."
But there's much more to the show than hands-on fun. Hendy Group will be giving visitors to this year's show the opportunity to test a range of all-wheel-drive vehicles on some difficult terrain in our Off-Road Experience. There will be five vehicles available for you to drive: The all-new Ford Ranger, Kia Sorento, Ford Kuga, Honda CR-V and New Kia Sportage.
On the day there will also be tractor rides, demonstrations of working gun dogs and bloodhounds; ferret racing, falconry displays; bushcrafts, milking cows and plenty of other attractions. And of course, it wouldn't be a country show if it didn't feature the very best from local food producers.
