Last weekend, the Hendy Motorsport team travelled once again to the roads of Northern France to compete in the 32nd running of the Rallye de la Lys.
After a week of unseasonably warm sunshine, the rally started in wet conditions! With the stages being 30-miles from the service halt, the tyre choice for the first loop of stages was difficult and ultimately a "lottery". The team went with a worn, wet tyre which turned out to be a good option, but other teams chose better. This put the team in 3rd spot after the 1st loop.
The 2nd loop was drier, but unfortunately the Focus WRC had picked up an intermittent misfire which left the team in 4th place overnight. Problems with the gear change system was deemed to be part of the same issue and a fix was made!
Alas... this was not the fix to the misfire! The following day the team set off for the next loop of stages. After 2-runs, with the misfire still apparent and worsening, the car finally "shutdown" on a road section. Possible alternator failure being the cause.
It proved a disappointing end. The team are now looking forward to the next event to make amends!
