New keys for Hendy's oldest customer

Hendy Ford Transit Centre Southampton had the pleasure of handing over the keys to a lovely van for Victor Gregg on Friday.

Victor is believed to be our oldest customer at 97 years old, and drives a van to better fit his and his wife's mobility scooters. Some may recognise him from his appearances on BBC, or from his book, Dresden: A Survivor's Story.

A WWII veteran, Victor joined up at the age of 18, two years before the war. He served first with the Rifle Brigade in India and Palestine, before going into service in the Western Desert. He was then taken prisoner at the Battle of Arnham, and was held as a prisoner of war in Dresden. His book details what it was like to the see the city bombed, describing it as a 'nightmare'.

Released from the Army in 1946, Victor has written two books and many more articles for papers such as The Guardian and The Telegraph, along with appearing on TV to give interviews about his life for the anniversary of the Dresden bombings.

From all of us at Hendy, we wish Victor the very best and hope that he and his wife enjoy driving their new van!
