The Kia EV9 has achieved a remarkable dual victory at the 2024 World Car Awards, winning the outright ‘World Car of the Year’ title and ‘World Electric Vehicle’.

The awards were revealed during a live announcement at the World Car Awards ceremony at the New York International Auto Show in late March.

The World Car Awards are selected by a jury of 100 distinguished automotive journalists representing 29 countries.

The Awards recognised the Kia EV9’s innovative design, spacious six- or seven-seat interior, and competitive price point. The EV9 is the first Kia to feature fourth-generation battery technology for improved performance, equipped as standard in the UK with a 99.8kWh battery capable of powering the large SUV up to 349 miles* on a single charge. Thanks to advanced 800V charging capability, the EV9 can add 154 miles of range in 15 minutes**.

Established in 2003, the World Car Awards are globally renowned as a premier standard for automotive excellence and leadership, celebrating remarkable accomplishments within a rapidly changing automotive industry.

Prior to the 2024 Awards, Kia had already claimed three wins at the World Car Awards – the Telluride as ‘World Car of the Year’ and the Soul EV as ‘World Urban Car’ in 2020, along with the Kia EV6 GT taking ‘World Performance Car of the Year’ in 2023.

Two wins in the World Car Awards add to an already impressive haul of accolades for the Kia EV9. Since its introduction as Kia’s first dedicated three-row electric SUV, the EV9 has collected a number of prizes, including ‘Family Car of the Year’ at the 2023 TopGear.com Awards, overall ‘Car of the Year’ and ‘Best Premium Electric Car’ at the 2024 DrivingElectric Awards; and most recently ‘UK Car of the Year 2024’.

* The range was determined according to the standardised EU measurement procedure (WLTP). The individual driving style and other factors, such as speed, outside temperature, topography and the use of electricity-consuming devices/units, have an influence on the real-life range and can possibly reduce it.

** In order to achieve the maximum charging speed, EV9 must be charged at an 800V electric vehicle charger that delivers at least 210kW of electricity. The additionally added real-life range within 15 minutes depends on different factors including the current state of charge of the battery, battery temperature, exterior weather conditions and the charger used. It is also defined by the individual driving style and energy consumption.
